Duchesse de Bourgogne (Duchess of Burgundy) is named after the daughter of the Duke of Burgundy, Mary, born in Bruges in 1457. Duchesse de Bourgogne is a sweet, fruity tasting beer with a pleasant sour oakiness, refreshing after-taste. Duchesse de Bourgogne is brewed with reddish barley malts and spicy hops. After the first and second fermentation, the beer intended for further maturation goes on to lager for several months in oak casks. Duchesse de Bourgogne is a refined reddish brown beer typical for the region of West-Flanders, Belgium, a style also known as The Burgundies of Belgium. The Duchesse de Bourgogne, a ruby red jewel of 6% alc./vol., is best served in the range of 47-53 degrees F (8-12 degrees C). Duchesse de Bourgogne, when served lightly chilled, is quite refreshing with the acidity to be truly food-friendly. If served at a natural cellar temperature, it assumes more Bourgundian robustness. The family owned brewery Verhaeghe-Vichte is located in West-Flanders, Belgium. The Verhaeghe family has been brewing for centuries. Brewery Verhaeghe-Vichte is still producing their red-brown ales, the traditional beer of West-Flanders, following the authentic method by maturing them in oak casks. www.specialtybeer.com.
